  • Dealing with Moral Distress

    Moral distress is the feeling you get when you know the ethical or "right" thing to do, but internal or external constraints prevent you from doing it. In this session, bioethicist and nurse Rebecca Greenberg will explore case studies in moral distress and share individual and organizational mitigation strategies.

  • Sexual Capacity and Consent

    In this practical and solutions-focused session, clinical ethicist Andria Bianchi will discuss the legal and ethical complexities surrounding sexual expression, capacity and consent in residents living with dementia. You'll leave with tools and strategies for managing these common situations with confidence.

Dr. Rebecca Greenberg

RN, PhD, Founder, Principal Consultant, Greenberg Consulting

Dr. Rebecca Greenberg is a nurse and bioethicist with two decades of experience in healthcare. Dr. Greenberg has spent most of her career working in variety of settings including the hospital sector, child welfare, and long term care, with a focus in academic hospitals including The Hospital for Sick Children and Sinai Health. She is committed to helping individuals and organizations navigate ethically difficult decisions. Dr. Greenberg has acted as a Chair and Vice-Chair to several Research Ethics Boards. Dr. Greenberg has a proven track record in research as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto. She developed and directed The Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Ethics with the Toronto Centre for Neonatal Health and the University of Toronto – the first of its kind in Canada. Dr. Greenberg is committed to education and sharing her research through speaking internationally, publishing research papers, editing books, and being featured in the media.

Dr. Rob Butcher

PhD, Principal Consultant, Foundations: Consultants on Ethics and Values Canada, Inc.

Rob was born in London England and came to London Ontario in 1982 to pursue graduate work at Western. He has a Ph.D. in Philosophy with a concentration in Bioethics. He taught Philosophy and Ethics for 15 years, and since 1990 has provided ethics consulting services to the health, sport and government sectors. Rob currently provides ethics services to some twenty hospitals and health-care facilities, the Correctional Service of Canada, and Home and Community Care Shared Services. His education programme on Ethics and Accreditation for Health-Care Facilities, is offered nationally and internationally by Accreditation Canada.
