Instructors

John Hirdes

Professor, University of Waterloo

Professor Hirdes is the senior Canadian fellow and a board member of interRAI, an international consortium of researchers from over 30 countries. He chairs interRAI's international Network of Excellence in Mental Health and the interRAI Network of Canada, a collaborative network of researchers and graduate students from across Canada. He is a member of the interRAI committee that produced the new suite of instruments and care planning protocols, and he led development of several interRAI instruments for mental health and community-based screening. He has more than 130 publications in peer reviewed journals and academic book chapters. His primary areas of interest include geriatric assessment, mental health, health care and service delivery, case mix systems, quality, health information management, social determinants of health, and quantitative research methods.

Amy Vine

Manager, Specialized Care Standards and Engagement, Canadian Institute for Health Information

Amy Vine is a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in the intersection of healthcare, data, and product management.  As the Manager of Standards and Engagement at the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), Amy plays a pivotal role in managing long-term care, homecare, Ontario Mental Health, and Rehabilitation data standards and driving the adoption and use of data across Canada to support evidence-based care planning and decision making.

Jonathon Bingeman

VP Finance & Digital Transformation, Providence Care

Jonathon Bingeman is the Vice President, Finance and Digital Transformation at Providence Care, a Kingston-based academic health system focused on specialized care in aging, mental health, and rehabilitation. His portfolio encompasses finance, information management, and information technology across Providence Care’s operations including hospital, transitional care, long-term care, and community programs. Prior to joining Providence Care, Jonathon spent several years with both Hamilton Health Sciences and Deloitte in a variety of roles covering treasury, capital planning, data analytics, and financial controllership. Jonathon is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and holds an MBA from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University.

Soo Ching Kikuta

Director, Resident Care, and Services, Seniors Services and Long-Term Care, City of Toronto

Soo Ching Kikuta is the Director, Resident Care and Services at the City of Toronto. Prior to this position, Soo Ching held many senior leadership positions in hospitals, for profit and not for profit long-term care homes and the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care. She was the former: Director of Licensing and Compliance for the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority, Vice President Patient Care Services, and Chief Nursing Officer, Provincial Manager for RAI-MDS Implementation, Clinical Expert Consultant and co-chaired the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care Compliance Transformation Committee. Soo Ching is a popular speaker for national and regional conventions and meetings on RAI-MDS leading practices implementation and building an effective Compliance Program at the organizational level.

Blu Desrosiers

Corporate Services Manager, Sherwood Park Manor

Blu has spent two years in the Long-Term Care industry, focusing on finances and management, while completing his Long-Term Care Executive Leadership program via CHA Learning. He currently assists in the operational management of Sherwood Park Manor, in Brockville, as a Corporate Service Manager. His background is eight years in small/medium sized business finances, residential/commercial construction, and entrepreneurship. His educational background is a bachelors degree in Accounting from Brock University, that was awarded in 2015.

Melissa Norman

Manager, Quality Improvement and RAI, The Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre

Melissa Norman is currently the Manager, Quality Improvement and RAI at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre, a 450-bed long term care home in Ottawa. She provides leadership in the areas of quality improvement, enterprise risk management, RAI-MDS, accreditation, organizational performance and business planning. Melissa holds a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Ottawa, is LEAN green belt certified, RAI certified and has completed the IDEAS Advanced Training Program in Quality Improvement sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Dennis Donovan

Head Consultant, 167 Finance and Systems Consulting

Dennis is Certified Public Accountant with over 40 years of experience in Canadian Divisions of Fortune 200 companies, privately held Canadian Companies, Non-profits, and Retail. He brings a strong understanding of Finance, Accounting, Systems, and Reporting. As the now retired Director of Finance and Information Management from Belmont House (The Toronto Aged Men’s and Women’s Homes) and Belmont House Foundation after 15 years, Dennis has been instrumental in automating the Finance function, improving the Operational and Capital Budgeting process, simplifying processes, and developing an information management system to produce the necessary reports, internal and external (MOLTC) accurately and on a timely basis. Dennis is a consultant to Belmont House as the Technology and Innovation Lead working on special projects for expansion and process automation beyond Finance. Dennis has a post-graduate diploma from Durham University Business School in Durham, United Kingdom.
